Content Overview

This course provides an in-depth examination of globalization and its multifaceted impact on international and local economies. Through the application of trade theory, analysis of scientific literature, and evaluation of empirical data and real-world case studies, students will develop a robust understanding of how global economic forces shape trade patterns, industry transformation, and financial flows.

A central component of the course is the preparation of a high-quality analytical policy briefing, addressing a contemporary global economic issue. Students will assume the role of policy advisors—crafting evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers such as government officials, international institutions, or business leaders. This exercise is designed to enhance analytical, research, and professional communication skills relevant to careers in economic development, policy analysis, or spatial planning.

Students may work individually or collaboratively in groups.

Key areas of study include:

-Transformation of industries and global trade patterns
-Dynamics of international financial markets
-Technology and its influence on the trade of goods and services
-The rise of the Asian tiger economies
-Trade policy in times of global uncertainty
